Audun Rikardsen, who lives in Tromsø, has been named Nature Photographer of the Year for the second time in the Nordic Nature Photo Contest.
«It is a great honor to receive this award. It is very surprising. It makes me feel very humble to receive it for the second time,» Rikardsen tells NRK.
It has been a good year for Rikardsen, who works as a professor at the Institute for Arctic and Marine Biology at the University of Tromsø. Earlier this year he was named Norway’s best nature photographer, and on Thursday he received the award for best Nordic nature photographer.
The contest is arranged by the magazine Natur & Foto, and 340 photographers from Nordic and other European Countries participated with 4,300 photographs.Two year’s ago Rikardsen won with a picture of a Greenland Seal, and this time he won with a picture of an eagle hunting for fish.
«It is a picture that I have worked with for a long time. I will also say that it is the most challenging picture I have worked with technically,» the photographer explains.
He explains that he has always had a general interest and fascination with nature. «Northern Norway is the most amazing photo studio one can ask for,» says Rikardsen, who grew up in Nordland County.
